Scar Treatment & Prevention with RecoSMA®

RecoSMA® is LINLINE’s non-thermal laser method to treat existing scars and help prevent problematic scarring after surgery, trauma, or burns. It combines precise surface micro-ablation with deep, non-thermal acoustic micro-stimulation that encourages the body to replace fibrotic scar tissue with healthier, functional tissue over a course of sessions.
How it works
- Surface precision. The SMA module splits the Er:YAG beam into thousands of micro-beams (micro-spots ≤50 µm, up to ~10,000/cm²), creating pinpoint micro-ablations.
- Deep, non-thermal effect. Each micro-event launches acoustic waves producing microscopic non-thermal injuries in the dermis that remodel fibrous collagen and stimulate regeneration.
- Tissue replacement—not just smoothing. With appropriate energy settings, RecoSMA® can destroy part of the fibrotic matrix and promote growth of functional tissue in its place—distinct from purely thermal methods.
What we treat
- Post-traumatic & post-surgical scars (atrophic, normotrophic, hypertrophic): smoothing borders, reducing density/volume, improving colour.
- Post-burn scars: early and mature cases can be addressed within the same RecoSMA® framework (see prevention for early timing).
- Stretch marks: objective gains in elasticity, colour, dermal thickness, and POSAS scores after a course ot treatment.
Course of treatment & how scars change
- It takes a course. Scars fade gradually: with each session the colour softens, surface level aligns with neighbouring skin, and elasticity normalises. Clinical examples document relief smoothing and border blending after RecoSMA sessions or Er:YAG ablation where indicated.
- Personalized plan. Series and intervals are tailored to scar type/size.
Keloid scars: combined care
We do treat keloids. Best results typically use combination therapy:
- Reduce the vascular supply first with vascular coagulation (on MULTILINE™, this is the Nd:YAP/KTP 540 nm emitter with LINLINE’s TCT method to increase selectivity).
- Follow with RecoSMA® to remodel fibrous tissue and smooth the contour.
Prevention: treat early to guide healing
Early, protocol-guided use of RecoSMA® can shift healing toward functional tissue instead of scar:
- Start as early as possible after injury/surgery/burn—ideally from week 1, under specialist supervision.
- In fresh scars with strong redness, begin with vascular coagulation to calm the vascular component and promote orderly maturation; then add RecoSMA® to suppress excessive collagen build-up and blend borders.
What a session is like
Comfort: usually no anaesthesia is required; sensations are brief warmth/tingling.
- Downtime: typically several days.
- Results: progressive improvement in colour, surface, and elasticity over weeks–months as collagen remodels.
Benefits
For patients
- Visible improvement in colour, texture, and contour; smoother transitions with surrounding skin.
- Not just resurfacing: method reduces fibrotic tissue and supports functional tissue formation—for a more natural look and feel.
- Comfortable, quick recovery: usually no anaesthesia; ~3–5 days social downtime typical.
- Suitable across any skin tones; reported no PIH.
For practitioners
- One method, many scar types: atrophic, normotrophic, hypertrophic, post-traumatic, post-burn, post-surgical, striae.
- Photomechanical remodeling reaches deep without broad thermal damage; parameters allow destructive or stimulating modes as needed.
- Algorithm-friendly combinations: vascular coagulation (e.g., TCT/540 nm) for red, immature scars and keloids; pigment tools for hyperpigmented areas—all on the same base unit.
- Efficient workflow: preset protocols, no disposable tips, rapid room turnover.
Safety
Published cohorts and clinic experience report high tolerance and no adverse events under study conditions. Standard laser safety (eye protection; antiviral prophylaxis when indicated) applies.
How it fits your clinic (MULTILINE™ platform)
RecoSMA® runs by attaching the SMA module to the Er:YAG 2.94 µm emitter on the MULTILINE™ base unit. The same platform hosts vascular (e.g., TCT), pigment, and hair modules, so you can stage or combine scar care—from early prevention to late remodeling—within one system.
Key takeaways
- Treats and prevents scars (post-traumatic, post-surgical, post-burn, striae).
- Replaces fibrotic tissue with functional tissue over a course of sessions; colour fades, level aligns, elasticity normalises.
- Keloids: combine vascular coagulation (TCT/540 nm) to reduce blood supply with RecoSMA® to remodel the fibrous core and help prevent regrowth.
